Seasonal Trends

One row per species, one column per closed week, over a rolling 26-week window. Colour is each species' share of that week's detections, scaled against its own busiest week so a rare bird reads as clearly as a common one. Rows are ordered by the week each species peaks, so a genuine seasonal march shows up as a diagonal. It's share of the week's total, not raw counts, so a mic change or a rainy week can't fake a trend.

Each week's single most-detected species — the "tallest bar wins" leaderboard, as one line.

How to read it

A row that fades left → right is a genuine decline — the species accounted for a bigger slice of activity early in the window than it does now.

A row that darkens left → right is a genuine rise, building toward the present.

A whole column darker than its neighbours across many rows is usually an artifact, not biology: when the dominant species' share dips that week, everyone else's share climbs in lockstep without changing behaviour.

A hatched, near-empty row has too few total detections for its "peak week" to mean anything — treat it as noise until the count climbs.
